The Maintanence
Kit VM-75 Daily Multi-Vitamin/Mineral Tablets from
Solgar replaces the discontinued Maxi-Vim tablets. After searching for a vendor
that has a quality daily vitamin/mineral formula that I can recommend to my
low-carb customers, I have chosen Solgar's VM-75 daily multi-vitamin/mineral
tablets. This product contains a good basic formula that works well for
individuals following a low-carb diet. Please note that VM-75 does not contain
vitamin A in the form of retinyl palmitate; rather it contain beta-carotene, a
precursor of vitamin A. It is my opinion that the palmitate form of vitamin A
should not be supplemented in the diet, especially for individuals following a
low-carb diet.
Magnesium and potassium are also important for
preventing insulin resistance. I have an excellent absorbable formula of
aspartate-chelated magnesium and potassium available. This form of magnesium
has health benefits that improve insulin sensitivity, strengthen bones, enhance
fat metabolism, and much more. Take 300-600 mg of chelated magnesium and
100-200 mg of chelated potassium per day (2-4 tablets).
Essential
Oils The most practical way to increase your Omea-3 fatty acids is to take
essential oils in softgel capsules. Flaxseed, borage, and fish oil contain a
good blend of essential fatty acids necessary for maintaining health. I offer
Essential oils that contain 400mg each of flax oil, borage oil, and fish oil
and 5 I.U. of vitamin E. For maintenance, take 1-2 softgels per
day.
Folic Acid (vitamin B 9) appears to play an important role
in fatty acid synthesis. There is also significant evidence that most of us are
deficient in this vitamin. For a basic maintenance dose, I recommend 800-1600
mcg per day or 1-2 tablets.
